Understanding NHS Exemptions And Prescription Costs
In England, we accept all NHS exemptions and prepayment certificates. If you do not qualify for an exemption, you will be charged the standard NHS prescription fee.
Starting from April 1st, 2023, the standard NHS charge will be £9.65 per item.
What Is an NHS Exemption Certificate?
The NHS Prescription Exemption Certificate is a document provided by the NHS to eligible patients who meet the requirements for exemption from prescription charges. This certificate allows eligible patients to receive their prescriptions for free. There are various reasons why someone may be exempt from prescription charges. If you qualify, you can apply for an exemption certificate. For a full list of individuals who can apply for exemption certificates, please refer to the list below or visit the NHS Website
Are You Exempt From NHS Prescription Charges?
The following individuals are automatically exempt from NHS prescription charges:
How to Use Your NHS Exemption
As a registered UK pharmacy, we accept all NHS exemptions. When ordering your medication and prescriptions from us, you will need to provide proof of your exemption in order for us to process your order free of charge. If you are ordering medicine for someone under 16 or over 60, we will automatically apply the exemption. However, if you or the person you are ordering for falls between these ages, proof of exemption will need to be uploaded when filling out our form. Please note that if you claim your free prescriptions after your exemption has expired, you may be subject to a penalty charge of up to £100. Therefore, please ensure that you check the validity of your certificate before uploading it. Read more about NHS Exemptions.
How to Use Your NHS Prescription Prepayment Certificate (PPC)
An NHS prescription prepayment certificate (PPC) is intended for individuals who regularly pay for their prescriptions. This certificate allows you to obtain as many prescriptions as you need for a fixed price, saving you money in the long term.
If you wish to use your Prescription Prepayment Certificate, simply add your PPC number to our form when ordering your prescription.
